Biblical Beliefs Unacceptable to GOP IL Leaders

The Illinois GOP has denounced the Christian beliefs of Susanne Atanus, a Republican candidate for Illinois' 9th congressional district.  Atanus says that natural disasters and myriad diseases are a reflection of God's omnipotence and thus a direct result of growing acceptance of sexual sin and the murdering of children in the womb.
"The offensive statements by Susanne Atanus have no place in the modern political debate, and she has no place on the ballot as a Republican. Her candidacy is neither supported nor endorsed by the leaders of our party, and she should withdraw from the race immediately.”
-- Illinois Republican Chairman Jack Dorgan
Republican leaders could have criticized the candidate over her qualifications, but rather chose to condemn her Christian beliefs.

UPDATE 4/14/14: Nevada GOP Platform OKs Abortion & 'Gay Marriage'

-- From "Susanne Atanus, GOP Candidate: Autism, Dementia Are God's Punishments For Gays, Abortions" reported by Huffington Post 1/23/14

"I am not in favor of abortions, I am not in favor of gay rights," Atanus, who has staged two previous unsuccessful runs for Congress, said during a videotaped portion of the interview, before going into more detail with the paper.

"God is angry. We are provoking him with abortions and same-sex marriage and civil unions," she added, blaming natural disasters like tornadoes and diseases including autism and dementia on recent advances in the LGBT movement. "Same-sex activity is going to increase AIDS. If it's in our military it will weaken our military. We need to respect God."

Adam Robinson, chairman of the Chicago Republican Party, emphasized in another statement that Atanus "is not in any way affiliated with any of our efforts in the Chicago GOP, nor have we ever supported, endorsed, or assisted her in any way at any time."

Voters in the Republican primary will have two very different candidates to choose from in the 9th Congressional District, as David Earl Williams III and Susanne Atanus vie for the right to face Rep. Jan Schakowsky in the fall.

. . . Atanus, who lives in Niles and has both an MBA and master's in public administration but is working full time on her campaign, the top issue is the economy. She maintains that ridding the nation of the stock indexes including the S&P, Dow Jones and Nasdaq would improve the nation's fiscal troubles.

"I am a conservative Republican and I believe in God first," Atanus said. She said she believes God controls the weather and has put tornadoes and diseases such as autism and dementia on earth as in response to gay rights and legalized abortions.

Atanus's remarks further elaborted that diseases, illnesses and even natural disasters are all a result of the same-sex marriage and abortions that have become more common. The interview stated that Atanus "believes God controls the weather and has put tornadoes and diseases such as autism and dementia on earth as punishment for gay rights and legalized abortions."

The 55-year-old Conservative has already run unsuccessfully for the seat of Illinois's 9th District twice in 2010 and 2012.  Atanus plans to implement her core beliefs into the government if elected. Aside from her religious beliefs, Atanus hopes to reconstruct the main issue in her agenda, which is the economy. "I'm upset with us having no economy for the 99 percent," Atanus said. "The middle class has been robbed."

Atanus is a member of the Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East and her religion is labeled as Catholicism.

Atanus said she stands by her comments and won’t withdraw.

“I don’t know why they are not standing behind me,” Atanus said.

“I care a lot about the world and I care a lot about my obedience to serve God the right way,” she said. “I can’t turn my eye and look the other way when I know that abortions, gay rights and civil unions are making God very angry.”
